Captain Dustin Lowe

Captain Dustin Lowe is a lifelong resident of Louisa County who, as a child, always wanted to follow in the footsteps of his family members who served their community as Law Enforcement Officers. After graduating from Louisa County High School in 1999, he attended Longwood University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice. Following college, Captain Lowe applied to and attended the North Carolina Police Corps Program in Salemburg, North Carolina.  After the successful completion of the six-month para-military program, Captain Lowe returned back to Louisa, Virginia as a certified police officer and began his career and dream of working in law enforcement.   

In 2003, Captain Lowe began his career in law enforcement as a Patrol Deputy for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office where he remained for several years, serving as a Deputy and eventually being promoted to Corporal and then Sergeant. Captain Lowe also served on the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit. 

In 2011, Captain Lowe transferred to the Special Operations Division where he worked as an Internet Crimes Against Children Detective (ICAC) and Mobile Forensics Examiner. While there, he had the opportunity to work and train with a variety of local, state, and federal agencies throughout Virginia and the United States. The United States Secret Service selected Captain Lowe to attend the National Computer Forensics Institute in Hoover, Alabama where he successfully completed the Mobile Device Recovery Program. In 2013, Captain Lowe again attended the National Computer Forensics Institute and successfully completed the Advanced Mobile Device Examiners Course.    

Also in 2013, Captain Lowe was promoted to Detective Sergeant where he began serving as a Sergeant and working with both the Special Operations and Criminal Investigations Division. In this capacity, Captain Lowe had the opportunity to work on some of Louisa County’s most high-profile cases. During that time, he was also appointed as the Coordinator for Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police joint Narcotics and Gang Task Force.  

In 2017, Captain Lowe was promoted to Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division, and assigned to Special Operations. There, Captain Lowe supervised Detectives in both Special Operations and Criminal Investigations and continued to serve as the Coordinator for Louisa County and Virginia State Police Narcotics and Gang Task Force, a role that he continues today.  

Most recently, in 2020, Captain Lowe was promoted to Captain of the Special Operations Division. Captain Lowe oversees multiple units that work within the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, including, Communications, Narcotics and Gang Task Force, Marine Unit, Motor Unit, and Community Policing Programs. Captain Lowe also serves as Team Commander for the Special Response Team   

Captain Lowe holds a variety of professional certifications and has received several awards and recognitions throughout his career, including:

  • Recognition Award for Work in a Racketeer, Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) case 
  • Virginia Gang Investigators Association Gang Specialist
  • Certified Katana Forensics First Responder
  • Certified Katana Forensics Mobile Examiner
  • Certified Access Date Mobile Examiner
  • Certified Cellebrite Logical Analyzer Operator 
  • Certified Cellebrite Physical Analyzer Operator
  • Certified Alerrt (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) Active Shooter Instructor. 

When he’s not working at the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Captain Lowe enjoys spending time at home with his wife and three daughters. He also enjoys riding his motorcycle as a member of the Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and raising money for families and children in need through charity events and rides.
