Lieutenant Patrick Sheridan

HISTORY

Lieutenant Patrick Sheridan serves as a K9 Officer and Patrol Lieutenant for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, managing not only half of the patrol division but also the School Resource Officer Division.  Lt. Sheridan has over 24 years of law enforcement experience, 22 of those being in Louisa County.

Sheridan is not only a Bloodhound handler and trainer for the Sheriff’s Office, but also works with other agencies across the United States and Europe in the utilization of Bloodhounds for police use.

Work in Law Enforcement

After working as a dispatcher for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office for over two years, Sheridan was sent to the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Academy in Waynesboro, Virginia in 1996, where he became certified as a law enforcement officer in the state of Virginia.

 While working for Louisa, Sheridan met his wife, Ann, an officer in a neighboring jurisdiction.  In 1998 the young couple moved to Fluvanna County where they built their home.  It was in that same year Sheridan decided to begin working for the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, where he became a Bloodhound handler for the department working with his first K9 partner, K9 Annie.

 In 2000, Sheridan accepted the position of K9 Officer for the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, where he quickly moved through the ranks as a supervisor, while maintaining his role as K9 Officer. Sheridan worked as a patrol sergeant for more than 8 years, until being promoted to the position of Lieutenant, in 2009.

 As a Lieutenant, Sheridan is in charge of managing the daily operations of his patrol shift, as well as overseeing the operations and event security for the county’s 6 schools and their School Resource Officers.  Sheridan is currently working his fourth K9 partner, Ally, a black and tan bloodhound that is used for search and rescue and criminal call outs.

•  K9 Instructor and mentor for the York County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina
•  Member of the Virginia Police Work Dog Association
•  Member of the American Bloodhound Club
•  2006 recipient of Officer of the Year by the Louisa County Crime Solvers
•  2012 recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from The American Bloodhound Club with his work with K9 Maggie
•  2018 recipient of the Life Saving Award from the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association with his work with K9 Rizzo.
