WASTEWATER DISCHARGE PIPE STRUCK AND DAMAGED; POSES NO DANGER TO PUBLIC IN LAKE ANNA

LOUISA, VIRGINIA – The Louisa County Water Authority (LCWA) is currently working with the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to safely address a Lake Anna Wastewater Plant discharge pipe that was damaged at approximately 9:00pm on Friday, June 9th. Nothing was flowing through the pipe on Friday evening, as the last discharge occurred nine hours prior to this incident. There is no danger to the public and there is no danger of pollution into Lake Anna.

The pipe, located approximately 300 ft. off the shoreline and 1000 ft. outside the cove, came away from one of the concrete structures that held it along the bottom of the lake and is currently floating approximately 3 in. below the surface of the water for approximately 25 ft. Markers cautioning boaters are in place for safety and to prevent further damage to the pipe. Those enjoying the lake should stay clear of the buoys to avoid contacting the pipe.

LCWA will work with DEQ to determine how the pipe will be repaired to ensure the continued protection of the lake and to best prevent potential future damage. LCWA residential and commercial service is not impacted in the Lake Anna area at this time.
